Arrival at Abacos
We arrived at our official start location for the next 3 months
We spend a day exploring Spanish Wells which is a town of about 2000 people on Eluthera. The beaches and sandbars here were just amazing, the photo of Andrew does not do the view justice. We ended up leaving to complete our final crossing to the Abacos (15 hour sail) around 5:00 pm. We had another overnight passage to ensure we arrived at the Abacos in daylight so we can see the path in. With no wind we had to motor at 4.5 knots for 15 hours, it was however not relaxing as we were in a major shipping channel and had to be vigilant to ensure we did not get run over by a freighter or cruise ship. We ended up getting to the Abacos around noon and stopped at the "Big O" on No Name Cay. We officially made it to our destination!!!

Our arrival to Abacos at No Name Cay
Andrew and Juan Carlos had above 5 days to explore the Abacos before we left. We spend the next evening in Green Turtle Cay which is a town of about 500 people that was settled in 1770's by Loyalists who fled the US. After spending the night at Donny's we headed down to Grabbers in Guana Cay. Along the way we came across another Lagoon 42 and that meant we now had a sailing race! JC and I doubled down on sail trim and quickly passed out sister ship who claimed they were slower due to their older sails! Wed is wing night at Grabbers so we had a lot of chicken wings for dinner and Andrew was in good spirits after his 3rd Grabber Rum Special! We then headed to HopeTown, the most iconic location in the Abacos with its famous lighthouse from the late 1890's It is the only lighthouse that still uses kerosene to create the light and was critical in the 1890's as there is a large reef out front where many ships have been sunk. We explored the town and played trivia at Captain Jacks where we came up one question short of free drinks. I am excited as Sue arrives this afternoon so we are heading to Marsh Harbour where we will go to a Marina so we can do laundry and change crew. I will be sad to have Juan Carlos and Andrew leave but we are looking forward to our next visitors.
